Take your swimsuit and have a BATH
/Once you are a proper Londoner, you think there’s nothing else outside the City. Afterwork drinks, museum exhibitions, cathing up with friends, shopping, high tea, fashion events…there’s always something going on. However, as exciting as it sounds (at least to me), some might want to have a chilled weekend from time to time. In that case, my choice this week goes to Bath.
A World Heritage Site since 1987, this cute little town makes you feel like you are in another country, even in another era.
The town centre brings together the main sightseeing hits which include the Roman Baths and the Bath Abbey (both a must). I would highly suggest getting into the Roman Baths early doors if you want to have a quieter visit.
Once you’ve covered the roman and medieval bits (yep, loads of history in this town), you could either let yourself have a wander around Milsom St, where all the action is, or keep sightseeing.
In that case, you’ve got two options: (i) heading to Royal Crescent, Circus and Paragon for Georgian Style houses and history or (ii) hiking to Alexandra Park to have outstanding views (and maybe few cool pictures) of Bath.
In any case, if you are looking for a relaxed day outside the city you should head to the Thermae Spa. A Roman-style spa where for over two hours you can treat yourself. Also, there’s a fantastic outdoor swimming pool which probably has the most rewarding views of the city.
As for food, I like to try local restaurants. I was in Bath just last weekend and we decided to go to this little italian restaurant called Yammo! and OH MY. Best Choice Ever! From starters to dessert, we wanted to have it all!
However, if you are up for something more classy, the Thermae Spa as well as The Pump Room Restaurant (part of the Roman Baths) offer very nice afternoon tea options. You can also enjoy jazz nights at the second one.
Summarizing, Bath is only about 1,30h away from the City and yet is a completely new experience. So why not try it out? I promise you it will be worth it!
